U.S. Unemployment Down From Peak, But Not Much — Percent Employed Is Much Worse — Underemployment Is High

This chart shows 8+% unemployment.  Not much better than the recent peak.  It was even worse in the early 1980’s, and we recovered.  Different world then though.

U.S. Civilian Unemployment

Of greater concern though is the percentage of the population with jobs.  That is much worse since the 2008 crash.  Still a bit better than the early 1980’s and a lot better than the 1950’s and 1960’s.

While unemployment is high, unemployment plus underemployment is very high, as this chart shows.
